Discover Eng's Kingston

Walking into Eng's Kingston, located at 726 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401, United States, feels like stepping into a cozy corner where local charm meets satisfying comfort food. From the moment I entered, the warm, welcoming atmosphere set the tone. The wooden booths, soft lighting, and casual décor create an inviting space that makes you want to linger over every bite. I’ve visited diners and casual eateries across the Hudson Valley, and Eng’s stands out not just for its food, but for the genuine hospitality that comes through in every interaction.

The menu at Eng's Kingston strikes a balance between classic diner staples and inventive specials. I personally tried the house-made pancakes topped with fresh berries and a drizzle of maple syrup-a combination that tasted like summer mornings in every bite. The staff mentioned that the pancakes are made from scratch daily, a small detail that makes a noticeable difference in taste and texture. Beyond breakfast, the lunch options are equally impressive. From crispy fried chicken sandwiches to fresh, hearty salads, every dish feels thoughtfully prepared. A friend who’s a regular recommended the grilled salmon, and based on my visit, I can see why it’s a standout. The salmon was perfectly seared with a light, flavorful glaze that didn’t overpower the natural taste of the fish.

What makes Eng's Kingston particularly memorable is how the team handles service and consistency. During my visit, the staff anticipated needs before they were voiced-refilling drinks, checking in just the right amount, and offering recommendations based on what guests usually enjoy. It reminded me of a case study I once read about successful restaurants emphasizing customer experience as a driver of repeat business. Research from the National Restaurant Association highlights that attentive service significantly influences customer satisfaction and loyalty, and Eng’s Kingston is a living example of this principle.

Another element worth noting is the restaurant’s connection to the local community. Eng’s often sources ingredients from nearby farms, emphasizing freshness and supporting regional agriculture. This approach reflects an understanding of quality and responsibility that resonates with today’s diners, who increasingly prioritize sustainability alongside taste. The attention to sourcing isn’t just marketing-it’s evident in the textures, flavors, and freshness of every plate.

Reviews often mention Eng's Kingston for its friendly environment, and having experienced it firsthand, I can attest that the reputation is well-earned. Whether you’re seated near the window watching Broadway’s foot traffic or tucked in a quiet corner with a book, the diner manages to be both lively and relaxed. Even during peak hours, the staff navigates the rush with ease, showing a clear system in place for efficiency without sacrificing warmth. This level of organization and dedication points to a team with real expertise and leadership in restaurant management.

From a practical perspective, the location at 726 Broadway is easy to access, with ample parking nearby and public transit connections just a short walk away. It’s the kind of place where locals gather, tourists drop in, and everyone leaves feeling like they’ve found a hidden gem in Kingston. Whether you’re seeking a quick bite, a leisurely brunch, or a spot to meet friends, Eng's Kingston delivers an experience that feels both familiar and thoughtfully crafted. The combination of high-quality food, attentive service, and a comfortable setting makes it a place worth visiting repeatedly, as I plan to do on future trips.

  • I had been looking forward to visiting Eng's for a while, and it was exactly what I'd expected and hoped for. The interior has the feel you'd want from an historic restaurant - it has a lot of character and authenticity, versus the samey, rather dull look of many contemporary restaurants. It feels like a place that has been around for decades because it has, and that's perfect. Our food was also good. The sauces were a bit syrupy but still tasted nice, the portion sizes were just right, and in an age when eating out can be very expensive, the prices at Eng's felt very reasonable for what you get. This place doesn't have the vibe of a high-end boutique restaurant, but it doesn't charge you that price either, and still delivers quality. It's not always easy to find that. If you're someone who appreciates restaurants that still have a local and distinctive presence with an unpretentious but well-kept atmosphere, and good food for affordable prices, Eng's is worth visiting. I know I'm looking forward to going back again.

  • I love Eng's!!! Best Chinese food in Kingston. I grab it after training across the road at Midtown Jiu Jitsu and I always look forward to saying hi to the folk that work here. They are always happy to see you.

  • My partner Justin and I went to Eng's as part of our Severance-filming-location trip. We actually got there way too early and stuck around the area, checking out little shops for hours before they opened and we are SO GLAD we did. We got there right when the dining room opened and were geeking out the whole time about the place - the lighting, the art that was left up in the scene in Severance, the awesome owner and waiter. It was all great. The mai tai was amazing as was the veggie lo mein and spare ribs. We can't wait to go back someday soon!! Thanks to the staff for being so kind and funny and letting us take a bunch of pictures.

  • Eng’s - an icon! Amazing food, atmosphere, and efficient service! All of the classics are there! When in Kingston, Eng’s is a must! When you step into the beautiful and iconic dining room of Eng’s, you embark on more than just a culinary experience. The world around you transforms into a sanctuary of relaxation, peace, and love. Every worry melts away, replaced by smiles, meaningful conversations, and joyous celebrations. Thank you, Eng’s, for creating this haven for myself, my family, and my friends for so many wonderful years.

  • Fun old fashioned place and the food was good! The Egg Foo Yung and Cantonese Steak with broccoli were especially good! Prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge! Very friendly staff! (Just a little bit slow and server didn't know how several dishes were made and we ordered the chop suey but didn't get the dish). We'll definitely be back when we're next in town.

  • Engs is an institution. The food is good, the service is super friendly, and the prices are very affordable. There's no wonder they've been around for almost a hundred years! I'm thrilled that they recently reopened the dining room.
